The Brimhall Protocol - What and Why Is IT...

We have some in our profession who challenge what we do as not being Chiropractic. It might be good to discuss what we do and why. The Brimhall Protocol is based on the premise of DD and BJ Palmer, that vertebral subluxations are the cause of dis-ease. Their definition of a subluxation is a condition of a vertebra that has lost its proper juxtaposition with the one above or the one below, or both; to an extent less than a luxation; which impinges nerves and interferes with the transmission of mental impulses.

Webster's Dictionary doesn't even have subluxation as a word in the English Language. Dorland's Dictionary lists subluxation as an incomplete or partial luxation. Energy Medicine The Scientific Basis by James Oshman PhD lists the subluxation as a joint misalignment that interferes with the flow of nerve impulses and the ‘vital force'. Dr Oschman lists further research on the vertebral subluxation by Aguayo et al 1971 that states there are energetic aspects of consideration in joint alignment. They list both nerve impulses and semiconduction through the tensegrous network. This network has consequences of the overall energy field of the body. He goes into great detail to explain in this book and his later expansion of this research in the second book, Energy Medicine in Therapeutics and Human Performance that high speed communication is carried out by not only the nervous system, but by body-wide energetic communication, as a result of the circulatory, immune and fascial systems. These are collectively referred to as the living matrix.

This living matrix is described as liquid crystal in nature and sustains a quantum coherence (Ho 1993). This is why low level laser and acupuncture, as well as spinal and other adjustments are so effective to help balance cellular to cellular communication. 

The combination of these two books is 634 pages of documented research and explanation of the interconnectedness of the spine and other connective tissues creating piezoelectric or pressure electricity that communicate and regulate body function. They are affected by sound, color, pressure, magnetics etc. His work includes hundreds of references with Ho, Popp, del Guidice, Smith, Atema and Biedler being just a few.

The Applied Kinesiology group have documented that subluxations of the vertebra affect nerves, blood vessels, CSF, Acupuncture connecters and lymph.

The SOT (Sacro Occipital Technique) group and the Cranial Osteopaths, such as Southerland, Fulford and Upledger, have documented and practiced correction of the vertebral subluxation and extremities, as well as craniosacral lesions through light adjusting, blocking, CSF (Cerebral Spinal Fluid) adjusting, fascial release (manually and with the Percussor) etc for over a century.

I have taken all of this wonderful work mentioned, read their books and added to my training, classes from Drs Gonstead, Goodheart, Bloodworth, Jean-Pierre Barral, Walther, White, Deal, Lee, Fuhr, Schmidt, Morter, Francis, Leaf, Nimmo, Amaro, Denton, Carrick and probably fifty others. I also completed a BS in nutrition, a FIAMA in acupuncture and a Diplomate in Applied Kinesiology. I have lectured with many medical doctors such as Drs Whitaker, Sinatra, Ornish, Douglas, Barnard, Northrup, McDaniel, Siegel, Colbert, Weil, Mindell, Cheraskin, McDougall, Goldberg, Gaby, Braly, and with researchers and authors eg Robert Pritikin, Jeff Bland PhD etc.

We have studied and implemented many ideas and concepts from Dr Carrick's work in Chiropractic Neurology and gleaned many ideas from the work of Dr Eric Braverman, The Edge Effect and Dr Daniel Amen, Change Your Brain Change Your Life, Which Brain Do You Want, Healing The Hardware Of The Soul in brain function and optimization. Dr Dan Murphy and Dr John Dennofrio are Chiropractic lecturer's worldwide that teach laser as I do. Dr Murphy has probably spoken in almost every state to and for chiropractic license renewal. He states you can still get ‘Chiropractic Miracles' but it is a lot harder and you must do more than pop and pray it works. Dr Dennofrio is the president of the Chiropractic Neurology group and administers the diplomat test. The Erchonia Laser is the laser we all three use and has been FDA approved as effective in healing and harmless to the doctor and the patient.

We recognize if we do not correct the cause of the subluxation at the same time we correct the subluxation, it will reoccur. In other words, if the Subluxation is the cause of dis-ease, what is the cause of the subluxation? We do not treat conditions that have people but we do treat people that have all kinds of conditions and named and blamed diseases that respond to identifying and removing the 6 interferences with the 6 Steps To Wellness. The body needs no help it just needs no interference is great Chiropractic Quote. Dr Jim Parker said to take no credit and accept no blame. People are responding to the Brimhall Protocol that had not been helped with standard medicine or chiropractic. It is not our fault, its Innate's. I am amazed people are offended because sick people are getting well. Why is it threatening to some chiropractors that others in Chiropractic are getting results, using different techniques than they use?

The Brimhall Protocol recognizes there are 6 Interferences or six causes of vertebral subluxations: 1) Structural trauma, 2) Electromagnetic pollution, 3) Nutritional inadequacies or deficiencies, 4) Allergies or Sensitivity triggers, 5) Emotional stressors, 6) Toxic accumulations or exposures.

We teach multiple methods of subluxation correction. We teach manual adjusting, instrument adjusting, CSF (cerebral spinal fluid) or light craniosacral adjusting. We teach nutritional support, soft tissue and fascial correction with manual and percussor techniques. We teach low level laser techniques of connective tissue correction and neurological balance.

We use tools to assist us eg eyelights developed by the Chiropractic Neurology group. We take into consideration diet, color, sound and other environmental influences have an effect on correction and maintaining the correction of the vertebral subluxation. We promote specific nutrition to correct inadequacies, deficiencies and for detoxification. We encourage detoxification procedures like far infrared saunas and foot baths.

We teach techniques of stress reduction and relief of emotional tensions so the subluxation correction is maintained better. We teach muscle strengthening and how to increase joint range of motion.

We encourage proper lab tests eg as blood studies, urine or saliva hormone panels, when indicated, to compliment a proper physical exam and case history. We encourage cooperation and referrals with other professionals of the healing arts eg Medical Doctors, Osteopaths, Dentists etc. So this is who we are and what we do.
